No. As long as you have listed how many delegates and advisors you will bring, we will accommodate your delegation. After registration we permit the addition of delegates and advisors within a time frame detailed in a follow-up email upon the closure of the current registration period. Additional chaperones not listed will not have official advisor status and will not be able to access committee sessions nor the NYU campus buildings. Please inform us as early as possible if you wish to add more delegates or advisors and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Registration will be held in a publicly available indoor space in the Kimmel Center for University Life, where you will receive lanyards with delegate and advisor badges. This is your only way of entering any NYU building, due to our strict ID rules. Please do not lose them. You should show this to security and they should let you in - if they do not, for any reason, please immediately contact us and we will come to help.

We are actively finalizing hotel deals for our conference, which will soon be listed on our website’s Hotel page. If you have already registered, discount codes or access points will be emailed to you directly. Note that we host EmpireMUNC XIII on New York University’s Campus.

If you, for any reason, cannot register on time, please inform us via email as soon as your travel plans are confirmed. We will organize an alternative check-in timing and make sure that your delegates can get their committees on-time.

We do not require attendance at our Closing Ceremony, however we encourage you to stay to show your support for other delegations and our staff! We will not give out any awards before Closing Ceremony, even if your travel plans require you to leave beforehand. We are always happy to email PDFs of certificates, however physical awards (eg. Gavels) may face significant delays in shipment.

EmpireMUNC XIII recommends that new delegates engage in our many GA committees, ranging from UN bodies to Regional Bodies. We recommend your advanced delegates participate in our 3 Ad Hocs or our Non-Traditional Crisis Committee, for varying mechanics and faced-paced debate.

Our exact procedure guide will be in our Delegate Handbook (which will be released soon). On our instagram, our USG of Training (and Head Delegate of NYU’s competitive Travel Team) will be uploading videos explaining the basics of competing in Model UN, across various types of committees, and how to be a strong and competitive delegate. We also recommend a number of websites, including BestDelegate, with more information about Model UN procedure.

We will account for delegations’ responses to our Committee Preference form, spreading out delegates as much as possible over our many committees. EmpireMUNC XIII will be using CP-SAT from Google OR-Tools to handle committee assignments.

Awards will be decided via a number of criteria, as determined by our Committee Staff. An awarding delegate should present strong public speaking skills, excellent diplomatic skills, and creative backroom arcs. The number of awards will vary based on committee size and type. All Delegations will be in automatic consideration for Delegation Awards, divided by Small (<10 delegates) and Large (10+ delegates) Delegations, based on overall delegation performance.

The dress code for all committee sessions is Western Business Attire, and a major violation of this dress code may result in a disqualification from awards for the violating delegate. Our final committee session on Sunday, as well as our Delegate Dance and all non-committee events allow for casual attire, but delegates are encouraged to maintain appropriate attire.

We expect all delegates to act appropriately throughout the duration of the conference. Any form of delegate misconduct will not be tolerated and be reported to our staff and the delegate’s advisor and appropriate action will be taken. We will be spreading anonymous report forms for inappropriate behavior and rules violations, and we always recommend bringing up your concerns to your Chairs.

Upon losing your ID badge, please let us know immediately. You will not be allowed to re-enter any NYU buildings without it, so keep it safe for the duration of the conference. Please be actively cautious about where you keep your badges and lanyards.

We will make another ID badge for you, and will make sure you are given it as soon as possible. This may take time depending on the availability of staff members, and so losing it may mean you miss a substantial amount of a committee session. We can guarantee your replacement by the following break, but will try to make sure that it will not take that long.

Yes. Every delegation must have an adult chaperone or advisor. For independent delegates, this may include a parent/guardian. The advisor/chaperone must be on-campus during the duration of the conference and contactable by email and phone at all times.

Each delegation must maintain a delegate to advisor ratio of 25:1 at the most.

It is the advisor’s responsibility in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all of their delegates. Please notify us if there are any concerns from your delegates. We encourage your delegates maintain group chats or some form of internal communication to keep in contact. Please note that NYU’s Campus extends solely to its buildings, and that virtually any outdoor area, even seemingly on-campus, is public space. Please exercise good judgement in the many public spaces around NYU.

Yes! Advisors will be allowed to step into committee rooms and observe debate given they are wearing their advisor badge and they are not disrupting debate. An extensive violation of either these may result in a request to leave the committee room. Please do not enter any backrooms, active classrooms, or Kimmel Commuter Lounge. There are a number of lounges and spaces across campus to sit down and relax at, and we will be happy to inform you of any of our recommendations.

There are a variety of stations and airports servicing New York City, this is some quick advice about getting to Penn Station, and then from there to NYU’s Kimmel Center.

New York’s extensive public transportation system makes getting around incredibly easy! Google and Apple Maps both work, however we personally recommend CityMapper for the most accurate and detailed transit information! Please be aware of the direction your subway or bus is headed and for any transfers. To access the MTA, you can tap a credit/debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, or purchase an OMNY card ahead of time. Make sure to plan ahead of time and feel free to ask us any questions!

EmpireMUNC is hosted at New York Universtity’s campus in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, surrounding the lively Washington Square Park, and spreads across through the West Village, Union Square, and Broadway. We highly encourage delegations to explore the area, especially if you’ve never been to New York before!

Our committees will be spread out across a number of NYU’s buildings, all within a couple minutes walk of one-another, and the specific addresses will be specified in the delegate handbook and updated on the website once finalized.

NYU is an incredibly accessible campus by public transportation! These are the closest subway stations to us, we recommend planning your route ahead of time and to accommodate the inevitably packed subways around rush hour.
